What equipment do I need to start taking lessons?
Do you do bi-weekly lessons?
Do you do trail rides?
Do you have a working student program?
What ages do you teach?
Are riders required to compete?
Where should I buy equipment and clothing for riding?
Do you teach people with disabilities or special needs?
- None! We have helmets you can borrow until you purchase your own. Riders should wear pants they are comfortable moving in and closed-toed shoes with a small heel, such as rain boots or hiking boots. Once riders know they enjoy lessons and will continue riding, they are expected to get proper riding boots and a helmet of their own. Riding pants or leggings are recommended but not required.
Do you do bi-weekly lessons?
- We offer bi-weekly lessons for our western program only. These lessons are on every other Sunday.
Do you do trail rides?
- We do not do trail rides for drop-in public; however, we do have on-site trails for weekly clients and we trailer horses off-farm for trail ride destinations.
Do you have a working student program?
- Yes! Megan has clients involved in the program help out around the barn and with lessons to get a reduced rate on services. Working students must be committed to regular lessons and be of an appropriate age for the work required.
What ages do you teach?
- All ages! We have worked with riders 3 years old through 93 years old. Roughly a third of our clients are adults, a third are ages 4-9, and the remaining third are 10-18.
Are riders required to compete?
- Not at all! While competition can give riders a sense of accomplishment as well as goals to move forward, showing is absolutely not required. For those who are interested in competition, we have several levels of showing available both on and off-farm.
Where should I buy equipment and clothing for riding?
- We suggest going to a store in-person so that a store employee can make sure the equipment is the best possible fit. Avoid ordering online because helmets and other items often are better fitted by a store professional. SmartPak and Dover Saddlery are both great options for in-person shopping.
Do you teach people with disabilities or special needs?
- We do not have any certifications specific to teaching those with disabilities and/or special needs. That being said, we are often able to accommodate those with disabilities and/or special needs depending on their goals and required accommodations. If you would like to sign someone up with disabilities and/or special needs, please let us know and we can do our best to work with you.
